Atlanta this weekend

Post by CobraJim »

Atlanta is racing this weekend at the Atlanta drag way; I was thinking about going down. Has anyone ever run at this venue? What's it like?

I found a video. I think it might be ok, depending heavily upon the course design.

Well I don't know if I can wait until the 20th. Weather looks great. I think I'll go. Don't know if I'll go down sat night or sun morning. What do you guys usually do when running Atlanta

From my house it is about 3 hours and 50 minutes, so you could make it down by leaving at 4 am or stay at what ever cost of room that you could get in a safe area.

If I can get my new tires delivered and mounted in time, I'll go.

I'll probably stay with a friend in Greeneville, SC Saturday night. Otherwise, I'd drive down early Sunday.

New tires mounted, new Al drive shaft, which was delivered much sooner than expected. Can't wait.

Not a bad event, actually. Well, it would have been bad if it had rained the entire session, but it dried enough that there was a dry line for the fourth run of my run group. Things were not looking good for the afternoon groups, though. Atlanta has an odd schedule. They have four run groups. Two in the morning and two in the afternoon. When you finish in the morning, you're done for the day. And if you're in one of the afternoon groups, you don't need to show up until noonish.

Anyway, everything I did seemed to work and I now have a lot more confidence in the car. I used a lot more throttle on my fourth run and picked up about three seconds from my third run. I was still 0.5 seconds behind first in class, but my time 44.1s was fairly quick overall. I'll put up a video shortly and maybe the throttle position vs distance charts for my third and fourth runs. Watching the video shot through the windshield between runs may have helped too.

That's one of the big draws, IMO. Whenever I go down, I usually run Pro in the morning, then run Time Only in the afternoon.

Pro was running in the afternoon this weekend.

Here's the video:https://youtu.be/F6hLM6ddORw

For some reason, it's playing at twice normal speed for me. That's never happened before. Edit: I was having a problem with my sound card. When you don't have sound, the video plays faster, don't ask me why.

Throttle graph below. The red line is run 4 and the black is run 3. Earlier and longer mostly. The gray background is the time difference of the two runs vs. distance. Pretty much faster everywhere.
