Interesting stuff.
For those that weren't there....
The test course was really really fun and really really helpful, but didn't place the same emphasis on car placement and precision as you would find on a typical autocross course. Those are things that would probably give the M3 a greater advantage.

Re: TEST REPORT F Street Comparison
I was there during the test and talking with a couple of the test drivers and all stated that the cars were really close with the bmw better under braking.

Re: TEST REPORT F Street Comparison
I think that torque advantage at low speeds for the 2015 Mustang only shows up on a drag strip with drag tires. Going to 18 inch wheels isn't going to help that much with third gear. If you really wanted to use third gear instead of second, you need a 4.10 rear axle ratio as well as 18 inch rims. That would put the theoretical thrust curve in third gear for the 2015 Mustang about in the middle of the second gear band for the other cars and make it much less likely to run out of revs.

Re: TEST REPORT F Street Comparison
I don't think they "want" to go to 3rd. The test course was unique and very fast. In my car, you had the choice of going to 3rd before the slalom and braking and grabbing 2nd where the slalom tightens up or riding 2nd all the way through and not braking at all. I think that is pretty atypical.

Re: TEST REPORT F Street Comparison
No, the mustang had to shift to third for the entire course to be in the game otherwise it was almost a second off the pace and going to 18 inch wheels is ok but a HUGE NO WAY do the mustangs need to change gear ratio.

Nevermind I found it. Too bad there wasn't an e46 in their test group. :\
