Tire suggestions

Post by TBailey »

I want to put new rubber on the 944 before the next event. I can put up to 225s on the car and still be good to go for ES. After some research, I am coming up with the BF Goodrich Rival S in 225/45-15 as the best all around tire. Does this align with what you guys are thinking or would you recommend a different tire? Thank you for your advice.

Yes, that would be a good tire for sure, and probably your best choice for a 15 inch wheel.

Assuming the stock wheels are 15's, you can also go up to 16's and run the Bridgestone. If the stock wheels were 16's you could go up to 17. You get a one inch = or - from the stock wheel diameter. Width must stay the same.

Awesome. Yes, the stock wheels are 15s, but I have so much expense in getting this car prepped, I'm gonna hold short on buying the 16" wheels, too.

Go with the Bridgestone way better tire.

The Bridgestone is the RE71R.

How wide are your stock wheels? Given that your car is heavy for the class, I'd probably want a bit more tire and run the 225/45/15 Rival S's, especially if you are on at least 7" wide wheels.

Yes the Bridgestones aren't available in a good size for you unless you go 16s

Todd...I have similar issues with my 20 inch wheels on my Camaro. ..not many choices for me to stay FStreet and get a good 200TW tire. I could buy all new wheels and tires which is very costly so right now I have pretty much 2 choices the Hankooks RS3'S which I run now and the new BFG Rivals I just bought this morning as they were on close out sale on Tire Rack.

I really love the Hankook Rs3. Traction is great. The sidewall seems softer than bridgestones. Wear so far has been very good. I run ES also and think they are very competitive. I hear a lot of buzz on the bridgestones and I may try some next time to compare.

The RS3 is a really nice tire, but if ultimate performance is the goal, the newer tires (Rival S and RE71R) are faster for autocross.

The RE71R seems to be durable and well behaved on the street and really good in the rain near full tread. I can't comment on the Rival S.

I haven't run the RE71R'S or the Rival S, but IMHO, the RS3 is worlds above the old Rivals
